The Executive Director will lead the CHEST Foundation team in executing strategies in support of the foundation’s mission to champion lung health by supporting clinical research, community service, and patient education. This position participates with the EVP/CEO and Board of Trustees in charting the organization’s course in fund and program development; cultivate board and donor relationships, advance fund development and endowment growth, facilitate the work of a board and committees, provide executive oversight and strategic direction for a team of fundraising professionals to meet established goals and KPIs, ensuring that philanthropy, fund development, and program delivery are carried out in keeping with the organization’s mission and strategic plan, while demonstrating CHEST’s core purpose and values.
Execute strategies that strengthen the financial sustainability of the CHEST Foundation through individual giving, endowments, planned giving, industry support, corporate partnerships, and other sources. Ensure effective donor cultivation and recognition, as well as compliance with all policies and regulations related to fundraising for the CHEST Foundation.
Engage Trustees and volunteers through active participation in committees and workgroups, aligning efforts with foundation strategic priorities. Leverage foundation staff, committeesand work groups to attract and select trustees and officers, implement awards and programs, develop and disseminate patient education resources, cultivate major gifts, and implement communications that elevate the foundation’s position and visibility (locally, nationally, and globally).
Provide fiscal oversight for the foundation, in collaboration with CHEST CFO; prepare, manage, and monitor the annual budget. Ensure annual 990 Form is shared with and approved by the Board of Trustees and posted on the foundation website. Ensure foundation adherence to all policies/disclosure obligations articulated by IRS regulations contained in this annual information form.
Serve as the principal liaison between the foundation and the Board of Trustees, providing leadership and guidance, as appropriate, in the development of board agendas and issues to be considered by the Board, and ensuring the Board of Trustees fulfills its fiduciary and other responsibilities. Ensure effective orientation, education, and training for all Board of Trustee members.
Oversee and direct the efforts of the CHEST Foundation fundraising staff, ensuring strong performance to goals, effective collaboration with staff across divisions, alignment with CHEST’s core values, as well as growth and professional development of team members.
Participate in strategic planning process. Monitor and report regularly on progress towards achievement of key performance indicators as identified by the Board of Trustees.
Develop and maintain key collaborative partnerships that enable the foundation to increase brand awareness, extend its reach, and achieve the foundation’s strategic and organizational goals.
Engage and collaborate with other members of senior management and staff to foster support of the foundation, and to align the strategic direction of the foundation with CHEST as a parent organization.

Advanced degree in related business field.
10+ years of executive-level experience in non-profit leadership and fundraising.
Executive presence and impact, including high degree of political and organizational sensitivity.
Exceptional relationship and teamwork skills demonstrated through effective interactions with leadership, board members, volunteers, colleagues, and philanthropic partners.
Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a foundation’s strategic vision into an operational model that achieves desired fundraising and programmatic results.
Proven ability to apply visionary and creative thinking skills to develop innovative foundation projects and campaigns that drive measurable impact.
Knowledge of and ability to apply CHEST Foundation vision/mission as a professional 501(c)(3) corporation, including ensuring compliance with all internal/external rules and regulations related to fund-raising.
Demonstrated competency in financial management, board management, volunteer management, and effective written/verbal communication skills.
Well-developed leadership, management, and motivational skills including proven ability to mentor, coach, and develop strong teams.
Ability to accommodate approximately 25% travel.
