The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), a national not-for-profit association, established in 1863 & representing over 94,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services, is seeking an Assistant Director, Digital Communications to join our Marketing & Communications team located in our headquarters office in Schaumburg, IL. Structured to work for its members, AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership and for the profession. Our mission is to lead the profession by advocating for our members and advancing the science and practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal and human health.
Reporting to the Division Director of Communications and with 3 direct reports, this newly created position defines and produces engaging member-facing digital experiences that support AVMA business objectives. This newly created position will develop and execute strategies that advance AVMA’s digital communications efforts, enhance brand and member experiences, and produce meaningful insights that positively impact the organization. They will consult with internal partners to understand overall objectives and how they relate to AVMA’s digital platforms, identify strategic challenges and opportunities, and lead the evolution of AVMA’s digital platforms to effectively meet those objectives. In addition to digital communications strategy and platform management, the Assistant Director will also oversee intelligence initiatives that span analytics, market research, competitive analysis and surveys, and will work to disseminate insights to relevant internal stakeholders through targeted communications. Their digital portfolio will include AVMA.org, the staff intranet, analytics tools, reports, dashboards, surveys and other digital mediums. Approximately 5% travel is required.

Minimum of 5-7 years of digital communications experience with 2+ years of management experience, association experience a plus
Demonstrated experience with driving innovation and creativity in a market
Must have proven experience with website management and redesign projects
Must have proven experience with Google Analytics
Experience with Google Data Studio and Google Tag Manager is preferred
Demonstrated understanding of user experience, content strategy, design and usability principles
Experience with search engine optimization, search engine marketing, databases, social media and/or digital advertising campaigns
Creative with proven experience of digital assets, digital campaigns and digital experiences
Experience working collaboratively with IT departments in translating strategic business requirements
Experience crafting market research/intelligence strategy is preferred
Demonstrated experience collecting data, synthesizing into meaningful insights and disseminating with key audiences
Experience with data analytics, focus groups, and surveying tools
Knowledge of association management systems, SPSS and Qualtrics a plus
Demonstrated team leadership capability and ability to mentor and coach staff
Strong interpersonal skills to manage multiple stakeholders, team members and leadership initiatives
Ability to motivate people, instill accountability and achieve results
Strategic mindset and independent thinker with sharp analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
Ability to work well in a team environment while self-directing most daily tasks
Comfort building relationships with leaders and colleagues across the organization and driving integrated execution from them
