The Director, Workforce Policy supports the Vice President, Strategy & Integration and is responsible for developing and managing the execution of industry positions, policies, events and programs on all matters related to the aerospace and defense workforce.
Responsible for developing and managing the execution of all efforts related to current and future aerospace workforce policies, programs and initiatives and works to help AIA member companies overcome challenges that may impede the success of these efforts.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:
This position reports directly to the Vice President, Strategy & Integration. The responsibility of the Director, Workforce Policy is to support the AIA Workforce Policy and related Working Groups. This position manages and coordinates AIA efforts to inspire, development, recruit and retain a skilled and dynamic 21st century aerospace workforce. Specific policy and program focus areas include: (1) science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, (2) career technical education and workforce training, and (3) diversity and inclusion policies.
This position also works closely with AIA’s legislative team to monitor Federal statutes, policies and regulations that affect education, personnel policy, and other related matters for information that may be of interest to AIA member companies. Specific responsibilities include:
Act as the AIA lead for Workforce and STEM content at AIA Board of Governors and Supplier Management Council meetings.
Coordinate and work closely with the other AIA divisions and policy councils on their workforce related issues.
Support the development of initiatives designed to assure the vitality of the A&D workforce, including representing AIA in meetings and conferences on related issues.
Represent AIA in Workforce or STEM meetings with partner organizations and government officials.
Coordinate national workforce and STEM efforts with other industry organizations and government and non-government partners, such as the Business Roundtable, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Manufacturing Institute at the National Association of Manufacturers.
Work closely with the AIA Team America Rocketry Challenge manager and offer innovative ways to make the competition a best practice in STEM development program and enhance its value for both participants and sponsors.
Serves as a subject matter expert and central resource person, and as such responds to inquiries from member companies, media, government officials and the public seeking information and background data on STEM and workforce issues.
Collaborate with AIA divisions to produce analytical products illuminating workforce, Engineering and Business Technology issues.
Review government regulatory and policy proposals regarding workforce and STEM education issues and coordinate the review and AIA position development with appropriate committee membership.
Qualifications and Experience:
Experience Required
Knowledgeable about Federal STEM and/or Workforce policy issues and/or relevant congressional committees
Excellent interpersonal and communications (verbal and written) skills required
Ability to work with and guide large groups with divergent views to build consensus and unity required
Demonstrated ability to advocate for policies, budgets and/or legislation
Must be comfortable working in a high-visibility environment with strict deadlines
Have an understanding of the skillsets that are relevant to the industry’s technical and skilled workforce
Knowledge of workforce development issues and programs as they relate to the aerospace/defense industry
Experience with STEM programs
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience is required
Advanced degree in education, engineering or related field is preferred
