Oversee the development and maintenance of the Society’s e-learning activities (e.g., e-books, webinars, courses, and modules). Collaborate with surgeon volunteers, staff, and other subject matter experts to design, implement, and evaluate innovative web-based and blended educational content. Provide guidance with regard to the preferred instructional methodology based upon content and goals. Manage staff within an environment that values teamwork, collaboration and active communication among the various STS departments.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Work with the Director of Education to design and implement the overall e-learning strategy of the Society.
Collaborate with subject matter experts, course developers, and staff to identify and create high quality e-learning activities for cardiothoracic surgeons and their teams, based upon needs assessments and identified practice gaps.
Direct the ongoing development of STS e-book products and platforms.
Develop pre- and post-assessments and surveys to help ensure effective measurement and evaluation techniques in order to monitor the effectiveness of e-learning products.
Adhere to adult learning theory and instructional design best practices.
Manage the standardization of STS e-learning educational offerings to enhance the user experience (style guide, user interface, etc.).
Research, identify and recommend as appropriate the integration of new technologies, tools, instructional methods and techniques into STS e-learning activities.
Manage the Society’s learning management system (LMS) and oversee all LMS activities and functions.
Cultivate and maintain liaison and business relationships with key collaborators, including external vendors and consultants.
Analyze and interpret evaluation data from educational programs; help lead efforts to improve experiences/outcomes for all STS educational activities.
Develop and recommend an operational budget each year to support the ongoing development of STS e-learning products, as well as the maintenance of existing e-learning products.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in instructional design technology or related web-based instructional field is required; Master’s degree highly preferred.
Minimum of five years related work experience required in the development of online and face-to-face medical education activities, including a strong working knowledge of computer-based tools used in the development and delivery of e-learning products. Minimum of three years supervisory experience is required. Experience in web-based instructional design using adult learning theory and project planning are essential. Experience with e-publishing preferred.
