The Vice President of Professional Development and Education is responsible for the overall direction of AHIMA’s educational program to create curriculum, course offerings, presentations, seminars and course offerings in accordance with AHIMA’s strategic priorities.The role sets strategy encompassing professional and leadership development, oversees the planning and evaluation for all education activities, sets standards for prior approval program (for continuing education credits), supports curriculum guidance for CAHIIM accredited schools, and oversees the organization’s workforce initiatives. The VP will lead a team responsible for curriculum design and development, abstract and speaker management, CEU data collection and maintenance, online education, web content management (education, conferences) and special workforce initiatives.Requires strong coordination with Membership, HIM Practice and Thought Leadership, Marketing, Meeting Planning and Publication teams.The role will be the executive liaison to CEE (Council for Excellence in Education) and CAHIIM (Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education).
Major Duties and Responsibilities
· Professional Development for Members and Non-Members
·Leads the enhancement and development of health information professional development and education programs that address the needs of the future within a climate that emphasizes learning and engagement, programmatic excellence and creativity.
·Ensures that programming keeps pace with industry best practices in product development, educational design, and all forms of adult learning.
·Responsible for building the capability of health information professionals from students, early and mid-career to executives to better lead the profession worldwide.
·Oversees the design, development and execution of all professional development programming in the US and abroad.
Establish metrics to regularly assess program success and incorporate ongoing audience feedback to improve engagement.
Responsible for Academic Affairs, ensuring that curriculum remains current with Professional Development and Education.
Integrate curricula competencies in all educational programs.
Assures the market driven needs inform the curriculum development and aligns this with the current and timely professional education content until curriculum can be implemented.
Oversee the planning of all education activities and identify trends that drive the development and successful implementation of educational programming and activities to meet the diverse needs of the members.
·Manage the jointly provided and co-provided agreements. (Preferred provider program). Develop program agendas and plans, secure speakers for Annual Conference and Assembly on Education (AOE) and Faculty Development Institute (FDI). Ensure content is developed and delivery in such a way that promotes AHIMA’s Mission and Vision.
Required Skills and Knowledge
Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring learning programs/processes that drive business results.
Strong capabilities in the area of data analytics, as it pertains to measuring learning, including leadership development and soft skills.
Excellent verbal and written communications; presentations skills required.
Experience providing consultation to senior leadership on strategic initiatives.
Able to adapt in an agile manner and to be proactive in a fast paced, ever changing environment.
Strong digital acumen and engagement skills; superior written, verbal and persuasive communication skills
Must be a good problem solver and facilitator with excellent analytical skills, advanced conflict resolution skills, strong team building skills and group facilitation skills. Is a credible expert who can guide the development of new ideas.
Intermediate working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).Experience with Learning Management Software platforms.
Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize work, multi-task across many assignments with limited support.
Master’s degree. Advanced educated beyond Master’s degree is highly desired
10+ years management-level experience managing adult education at an association, nonprofit or related business, including leading/managing staff. At least 3 years in a senior management capacity
A strategic thinker with current knowledge of educational technologies, effective adult learning methods and leadership development.
Experience as executive liaison to external professional groups.
Experienced and skilled at designing and managing revenue-generating programming across multiple professions, systems and geographic settings
Experience managing educational budgets over $20 million, in domestic and international markets preferred.
Current AHIMA Member preferred.
