The Dermatology PA Foundation (DPAF) is the official 501c3 foundation of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistant (SDPA). Formed in 2015 by the SDPA, the DPAF seeks to fund and promote education, research, and philanthropy to advance the field of dermatology. Since its formation, the DPAF has grown exponentially and offers annual programs such as charitable races, online accredited education courses, and live in person education. In 2018, the DPAF launched the first ever research grant program for Physician Assistant’s in the field of dermatology. The Foundation is run by a passionate, engaged and dedicated, Board of Trustees seeking to support dermatology patients, PAs, and the community at large.

The Foundation Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the Dermatology PA Foundation (DPAF). Other key duties include fundraising, marketing and communications outreach, including identification and solicitation of funding from public or private funding sources. The position reports directly to the Board of Trustees (Board), with the primary contact being the Chair of the Board. The Foundation Director serves as the primary resource in directing programmatic activities and generating revenue for the Foundation. Primary focus will be to support and execute current programs and develop new fundraising programs within first year of hire date. As guided by the DPAF Board of Trustees, is responsible for executing and meeting requirements of the DPAF strategic plan.
The Foundation Director will collaborate (and be in the office) with staff of its parent organization, the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA). The SDPA is a 3700-member strong 501c6 nonprofit association located in Alexandria, VA.
Board Governance: Works with the Board to fulfill the Foundation’s strategic vision.
Responsible for working with the Board of Trustees to execute and implement the mission, vision, and goals of the Foundation.
Responsible for accurate, timely and consistent communication with the Board, ensuring informed decisions.
Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources and provides oversight to ensure the financial health and integrity of the Foundation.
Responsible for coordinating with the Board of Trustees on the development of the DPAF Annual Budget and scope of work.
Responsible for management and oversight of DPAF’s financial activities and programs including daily financial activities, monthly financial reports, financial forecasting, and other tasks as assigned.
Responsible for overseeing and coordinating with any third-party vendors performing accounting work on behalf of the Foundation to include monthly, annual, and audit related work.
Responsible for a high level of independent thought and ethical management to ensure the integrity of DPAF’s financial resources, fundraising efforts and donor restricted funds. Responsible for the development and management of fundraising programs and resources to further the DPAF mission.
Programs & Fundraising: Responsible for the execution, implementation, and development of Foundation programs and activities.
Responsible for the development and creation of new programs and activities that help DPAF succeed and contribute to the field of dermatology.
Responsible for the execution and maintenance of current programs such as DPAF’s Research Grant, annual charitable race, educational programming, etc.
Responsible for the maintenance of DPAF’s software, databases, website, and other communications vehicles
Responsible for the upkeep of DPAF’s social media accounts
Administration & Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that DPAF operations are timely and accurately executed.
Responsible for providing customer service to donors and stakeholders through phone, email, and online communities.
Responsible for general administrative and operational duties as assigned.
Responsible for the coordination of third-party vendors including legal counsel, accounting, software and databases, and other vendors as deemed necessary.
Responsible for timely and professional communication
Responsible for signing all agreements, notes, documents made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.
Must be based in the Washington D.C. Metro Area with reliable transportation (this is not a remote position)
2 years of fundraising and development experience (Required)
A bachelor’s degree or higher (Required)
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector
High level of independent thought
Transparent and ethical leadership
Exceptional work ethic, eagerness to learn, and self-starter
Working experience with Microsoft Office
5 + years of nonprofit experience
Knowledge and understand of association management software and/or donor management software and technologies
Proven budget management skills, including preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting
Proven organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation
Collaboration with and ability to motivate board members and other volunteers
