Project Management/Program Development, Research and Information
Required Education:
4 Year Degree
The Director of Research is responsible for supervising management of contracts for research projects supporting development and modernization of ASME standards including timely completion of deliverables to ASME volunteer standards committees; service contracts for support of committee operations, and contracts for the preparation and delivery of new ASME standards and ancillary products.
The Director of Research will also be responsible for securing and maintaining partnerships and business relationships with government and private organizations in support of engineering research projects pertinent to ASME objectives.
Standards research projects result in technical reports that provide ASME’s standards developing committees with data or other technical information needed for standards development to meet market/stakeholder demands, address technological advances, meet legal/regulatory requirements, and retain global relevance, thus allowing ASME standards to remain competitive.
Additional Duties will include:
Collaboration with ASME Standards Directors and Advisory Group on External Funding regarding funding of approved Standards R&D projects
Establishment and maintenance of ASME agreements and business relationships with external organizations, including, but not limited to not-for-profits, Standards Developing Organizations, industry, and government organizations pursuant to potential external funding or other support of Standards research projects.
Provide estimates and recommendations for available external funding for approved Standards research projects each budgeting cycle.
Take appropriate action to mitigate consequences arising from improper fulfillment of ASME contracts.
Ideal candidate must have a Bachelors’ degree in Engineering or related Science and previous experience in contract and project management. In addition, candidate must have experience securing and maintaining business relationships/partnerships including financial commitments. Experience in standards development/use is a plus.
