Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for providing strategic and shared leadership and vision, and creating and maintaining sustainable value for AACN’s members, staff, and other key stakeholders. These responsibilities require a focus on shared decisions that maximize expected program and economic value, assuring the long-term sustainability of the organization. The CFO leads planning for the effective use of financial resources, based on sound analysis and in alignment with organizational goals and policy. With support from the Controller, the CFO is responsible for strategic financial management, risk management, and compliance with all relevant local, state, federal regulations, laws and accounting principles for the organization. The CFO also ensures the Association has the proper operational controls, financial policies, administrative and reporting procedures, and financial systems in place to facilitate proper stewardship over financial transactions.
The CFO role is also outward facing, involving various stakeholder relationships and engagements with external auditors, banks, regulators, government, industry, trade groups, etc. As a member of the Strategic Council and Senior Leadership Team, the CFO collaboratively plans for, and regularly assesses the organization's progress toward its goals; examines issues that may impact the organization's future health and growth; determines solutions; and explores and counsels on emerging opportunities.
Provides finance leadership to the organization’s volunteer and staff leaders, as well as authentic leadership and development to the finance and accounting (F&A) team, and other staff, which this position oversees.
Serves as a high-level strategic leader with accountability for AACN's dual bottom line (achieving mission impact and financial viability), ensuring financial systems and resources consistently enhance AACN's ability to effectively and efficiently meet its objectives and obligations.

Education and/or Experience Required
Master’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration or related field.
Minimum of 10 years of people management experience and developing and managing financial systems, with at least 5 years in a CFO/Senior financial-management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of comprehensive financial management strategies.
Experience leading at an organizational level including demonstrating: broad understanding of issues facing the whole of the organization within and beyond one’s own direct scope of responsibility; shared accountability for organizational challenges and results including the development and implementation of solutions; ability to effectively translate organizational messages to staff and constituents.
Track record of collaboratively leading teams through design, implementation and evaluation of key organizational initiatives.
Significant experience in or knowledge of social sector organization accounting is preferred, including compliance, and reporting in an organization with total assets exceeding $100 million and operating revenue of $30 million plus.
Experience with and proficiency in the use of software programs for accounting, word processing, databases, spreadsheets, email and internet.
Should possess knowledge of all aspects of GAAP and the rules governing nonprofit entities.
