The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) seeks an individual with demonstrated success working in membership and engagement. As part of a dedicated and talented Membership team, the Membership and Engagement Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive and innovative membership recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies and programs.
In collaboration with Marketing and Communications staff, analyzes data on member and prospective member needs and aspirations, tracks membership trends in associations, and implements creative engagement strategies. Develops operational plans to broaden the STS membership by supporting the promotion of the Society to surgeons-in-training, allied health professionals, and professionals practicing outside the United States. Optimizes the Society’s customer support operations and overall membership application process and oversees the integrity of contact data in the STS membership database.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Report on and analyze all aspects of membership and member application data, history, and trends.
Makes ongoing recommendations to grow membership, improve retention, and increase member engagement.
Work across the organization to develop plans for delivering and enhancing STS membership benefits.
Identify and implement strategies to engage members through recognition programs and other avenues that address important member interests.
Implement strategies to provide fast, accurate, and professional customer service to members and prospective members including managing the efficient, accurate, and consistent processing of new applications.
Collaborate with Marketing and Communications on messaging to promote membership, guide members and prospective members into appropriate membership categories, retain members, and on-board new members.
Support the STS Membership Committee’s review of surgeon member applications; schedule and staff Membership Committee meetings; create, organize and distribute supporting materials.
Manage efforts to re-engage terminated members.
Work closely with Information Services to maintain and enhance the profile creation and membership application functionality on the STS website.
Represent STS at domestic and international conferences, as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required; education in communications, marketing, or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of four years membership services, communications, or marketing experience is required, preferably within an association environment. Customer service experience is essential.
