The American Dental Association is dedicated to promoting the public's health through its initiatives in research, education, advocacy, public awareness and the development of standards.
The Manager, Communications will protect and promote the reputation of the ADA and the profession by implementing proactive communications strategies and tactics that position the ADA as the nation's preeminent oral health resource as well as a socially responsible and member-responsive organization. This includes responding to media and initiating outreach through a paid, shared and owned approach, preparation of ADA spokespeople and leadership for media interaction and development of press materials.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in/with media relations, public affairs, communications or related field, including a minimum of two years of writing press materials and communications materials for a variety of audiences, working directly with subject matter experts, executive level management and reporters, and developing and executing tactical communications plans.
Must have the ability to demonstrate sound judgment.
Must have the ability to work well under pressure.
Must be able to develop and execute tactical communications plans.
Must be able to collaborate with cross-divisional teams.
Must have the ability to develop compelling messaging for various audiences, write for the news media, public, dental profession, and allied health professionals.
Must have the ability to research, strategize, and translate dental messages, issues and policy into consumer language.
Must have excellent writing, editing, speaking, and analytical, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
Must have knowledge of media relations, traditional and digital communications.
Experience with content management, media and social media distribution, monitoring and listening software highly desirable (e.g., Sitecore, Cision or Meltwater, Sprout).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
May be required to travel several times a year for ADA meetings, conferences, and media trainings.
