The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is the largest professional membership organization for pathologists, residents, and laboratory professionals servicing 100,000 members. As the Director of Membership, this person serves a critical role within ASCP. In this capacity, the Director is responsible for all activities and personnel involved in membership development. The primary responsibility of this position is to grow membership to include creating programs to recruit new members and retain existing members. Additionally, this individual is responsible for gathering insights via market research, needs assessments and competitive analyses, This data will then be leveraged to continuously strengthen our value proposition. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required to manage the various governance activities and volunteer interactions that support the delivery of an exceptional member experience.
Create high level strategies and programs that increase market share, member engagement and value.
Develop and execute an integrated annual membership campaign that increases recruitment, reactivation and retention rates.
In collaboration with the analytics team, set goals and metrics to monitor the success of the annual campaign and report progress.
Identify key segments and appropriate messaging that resonates with target audiences and clearly demonstrates our value proposition.
Gather insights annually to understand members’ needs and utilize the information to enhance member experience, benefits, and program offerings.
Serve as a liaison between the Commission on Membership & Member Councils and internal team members.
Share insights to assist with product development and enhancements.
Assist in building relationships with industry partners related to scholarships and member volunteer program.
Direct governance activities for Commission on Membership, Fellow Council, Council of Laboratory Professionals, Resident Council, Committee of Regional Representatives.
Work with volunteers to develop strategies and tactical plans that focus on members’ needs and deliver a personalized member experience.
Serve as the lead staff member to the Diversity and Inclusion Committee and ensure all activities are executed to plan.
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience specific to Association Membership marketing and management.
Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize work, multi-task across many assignments.
Superior people management and communication skills. Ability to maintain discretion and persuade in a positive context. Excellent organizational strategies.
Solution-oriented and a big-picture thinker with strong business acumen.
Must be self-managed, self-directed and self-motivated.
Must be able to travel to occasional meetings (approximately twice a year); some light lifting may be required in setting up marketing booth for trade shows.
