The North Carolina Pork Council seeks a talented, collaborative and results-oriented Chief Executive Officer to lead the association in a deep and broad range of initiatives and activities. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge and capabilities in strategic planning, relationship management, communications, issues management and advocacy, financial acumen and personnel leadership. The pork industry in North Carolina is vital to the state’s economy, supporting more than 45,000 jobs, accounting for $10 billion in economic activity and producing beloved products that are enjoyed here and around the world. The North Carolina Pork Council, chartered in 1962, is the respected voice of the pork industry, with an elected Board of Directors representing pork producers, allies and partners from across the state.
Core responsibilities include strategic planning, leadership, oversight, advocacy, functional performance and execution in the following areas:
Issues management, including solicitation and collaboration across the industry to synthesize industry positions and concerns
Strategic communications, including with external and internal audiences
Regulatory and public policy, including state and federal environmental policy
Marketing and promotions, including maximizing use of digital platforms
Educational programs, especially for association members and allies on current topics and trends
Research, including sustained efforts to improve and amplify industry best practices
Stakeholder engagement and partnerships
Financial and fiduciary performance, including management of checkoff-funded programming
Effective leadership of a highly qualified staff team, as well as of multiple contractual relationships
Long-range planning and strategic guidance for the Board of Directors
The ideal candidate will have a background and experiences that include skills and characteristics in:
Organizational and people leadership
Strategic planning and critical thinking
Success in hands-on management and oversight of business, nonprofit, government agency or related programming
Experience with governing bodies
Knowledge of and affinity for livestock agriculture
Strong listening and speaking skills to ensure effective communication with co-workers, stakeholders, collaborators and partners, the media, state and federal officials, and others
High emotional intelligence, adaptability, political discernment and sensitivity
Sound judgment, strong work ethic, integrity and mental toughness
