The Chief Finance and Operations Officer works closely with the Executive Director to lead the association’s day-to-day operations, steward finances, support the mission and vision, and implement initiatives as part of the association’s current and future strategic plans. This position provides operational oversight and direction in the use of financial, human, and technology resources to effectively and efficiently achieve association goals and enhance overall organizational capacity, performance, and return on investment.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overall Operations:
Provide operational leadership in the strategic planning, development and direction of NAEA activities, including the management of human, financial, technological and strategic resources.
Work closely with the Executive Director in setting goals, direction, and policies and procedures for the association, maintaining consistency and coherence in purpose and communication among all staff and constituents.
Orchestrate the development of operational plans and direct the implementation of strategic actions toward achieving association goals.
Provide oversight and direction for business planning and operations.
Establish procedures and monitor progress toward achieving operational and financial goals; communicate objectives and expectations to all staff.
Financial:
Responsible for managing the annual budget, including the financial outcomes/performance of the association’s revenue streams (convention, membership, publications) as well as cost-centers.
Management and negotiation of all contracts and related-issues (including contractors, vendors, convention, etc…)
Establish, negotiate, and sustain alliances and partnerships with external organizations in ways that grow the financial resources of the association and provide value-added services for members.
In collaboration with the Chief Creative and Communications Officer, set the overall marketing directionbased on data, including market research and environmental analyses.
Oversee total compensation structure, including administration of payroll, benefits, and performance evaluation process.
Staff:
Provide motivational leadership and oversee the organizational structure and operating systems toward enhancing productivity and achieving operational goals, including staff training and development.
Lead, direct, and manage staff and financial resources responsibly and effectively.
Delegate activities, responsibilities and authorities as necessary and desirable to accomplish association goals and objectives.
Implement change initiatives designed to enhance individual and organizational knowledge and performance.
Ensure that effective management practices are in place at all levels.
Manage human resources function/support systems.
Association-related:
Provide keen insight on membership initiatives, strategies, and promotions.
Assess and lead technology efforts for association management systems and innovations.
Available to state leaders for guidance on matters of association governance, management, and finances.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters in Business Administration and/or non-profit management, Certified Association Executive (CAE) preferred.
Minimum 5-7 years association, nonprofit, or related business management experience, including several years at a senior level.
Demonstrated leadership in strategic planning, development, finance, and operations management.
Understanding of association management, governance, and systems.
Hands-on management style, able to wear many hats and multi-task across work streams.
Proven program/project/resource development and management.
Must be results driven, team-oriented, and an individual/organizational capacity builder.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills with a highly strategic perspective.
Knowledge and understanding of globalization and technology as drivers of organizational change.
Knowledge and general understanding of the field of education and/or arts education, as well as associations.
Entrepreneurial propensity for developing and managing business operations with a strong profit and loss orientation.
Experience in financial analysis/forecasting and business needs analysis.
Proficient in business planning that results in maximized return on investments.
Experience in planning and executing large scale virtual and in-person events.
Experience with large-scale membership initiatives and fundraising preferred.

Additional Salary Information: Low to Mid $100K, commensurate with experience
