The Director, State Government Relations is the lead for developing Emergency Department Practice Management Association’s (EDPMA) legislative and regulatory strategy at the state level, as well as educating EDPMA members about key opportunities to engage.
Individual must possess the ability to monitor the status of state legislation and regulations and develop and execute advocacy and communication plans, be confident interacting with government officials and senior-level executives, and be efficient and effective in an environment with numerous tight deadlines on a variety of projects. Additional requirements include direct lobbying and/or regulatory experience, strong speaking and writing skills; the ability to work autonomously; outstanding organizational and collaborative skills; and a proven sense of initiative and ownership.
Primary Duties:
Provide issue, organization, industry professional, or coalition overviews to executive director and/or EDPMA leadership, as requested.
Track state legislative and regulatory issues identified by EDPMA leadership as priorities for the association.
Represent EDPMA and direct its activities before government and key policymakers including state and local governments, and other interested associations as directed or confirmed by the executive director. Ensure that all lobbying reports are filed.
Communicate written and verbal educational information, policy tracking, and EDPMA advocacy activity updates to the EDPMA Board of Directors, volunteer committees, and members regarding legislative and regulatory developments and EDPMA advocacy activities and initiatives, as directed by the executive director.
Draft articles ready for publication as directed as part of EDPMA’s communication strategy, as directed by the executive director.
Ensure the executive director, EDPMA leadership, and/or MCI leadership are appropriately apprised of conversations, action items, and key outcomes from any and all conversations convened under the auspices of EDPMA.
Work with EDPMA leadership and relevant committees to prepare reference materials for use in outreach and advocacy activities within the framework of the policy aims and programs as generally determined by the Board of Directors.
Develop substantive and persuasive policy documents including fact sheets, educational materials, correspondence, talking points, regulatory comments, and legislative testimony.
Secure meetings for EDPMA leadership with policymakers and coordinate preparation, materials, and messaging to maximize effective representation.
With the Executive Director and EDPMA leadership, represent EDPMA’s legislative and policy interests with state policymakers.
Handle the EDPMA PAC, including filing FEC reports and ensuring legal compliance.
Identify opportunities for EDPMA to impact and inform policy development at the federal, state, and international levels, and coordinate development of initiatives and activities with the Chair, volunteer committees, and the Board of Directors.
Provide support for EDPMA’s committees as needed, including leading the committee that handles data collection and ensuring legal compliance with antitrust and other laws.
