The Director of Membership is responsible for developing and implementing the Michigan Pharmacists Association membership recruitment/retention strategies. In this new position, the individual will plan, direct, coordinate, and implement the association’s membership retention and recruitment activities and evaluate these strategies' effectiveness.
The Director of Membership must be familiar with association management systems and be able to use the available data to enhance recruitment and retention efforts. The individual will manage the department’s budget and work with staff to identify new benefits as well as non-dues revenue sources related to membership value. The Director serves as the staff liaison to several volunteer committees and groups.
Develop member recruitment, new member orientation, and retention strategies.
Develop an annual membership growth plan.
Work with Marketing & Communications Department to write, design, and implement effective recruitment and retention strategies, develop direct communications with members and non-member prospects, and manage print and online content.
Provide other membership-related content for website, social media posts, etc.
Provide regular membership reports for staff, committees, and the Executive Board; ensures integrity of membership data.
Serve as staff liaison to committees and task forces as they relate to membership.
Develop and manage affinity and other programs with third-party vendors to maximize member benefits and revenue.
Develop and oversee revenue and expense line items in the budget related to membership.
Oversee membership team.
Other duties as needed to accomplish responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Minimum of 5 years of association experience with membership focus
Proven track record in the ability to grow and retain membership
Possess strong project management skills
Be confident interacting with senior-level executives and volunteers
Proven sense of initiative and ownership
Excellent communication skills (written & oral)
Possess critical and analytical thinking skills
Demonstrated ability to succeed in the fast-paced work environment; ability to learn quickly and meet deadlines
Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), general computing skills, and social media
Experience with or ability to quickly learn database functions.
