The Paper + Packaging Board (P+PB) is an industry-funded promotion program responsible for creating a favorable marketplace for paper and paper-based packaging. The Board is doing this through an awareness and education campaign designed to increase consumers’ knowledge about the industry’s unrivaled sustainability and benefits story.
The Member Relations Manager’s role is to educate and engage members and affiliated industry and down stream audiences about the consumer and B2B channel programs and campaign accomplishments that promote the paper industry’s sustainability story and supporting the value proposition of the P+PB checkoff program to its membership. The Member Relations Manager does this through oversight and hands on involvement in P+PB’s communications initiatives to our companies and P+PB’s Communications Ambassadors Program (CAP), including overseeing writing and design and distribution of communications, events and activations.
The Member Relations Manager supervises and coordinates the deliverables below with the Marketing Coordinator for Industry Outreach.
Company and Industry Communications (50%)
- Working with the Sr. Director, Industry Outreach, manage the development of an annual industry outreach communications plan including goals and measurable objectives for reaching member company leadership, sales and marketing, corporate communicators, industry trade groups and channel partners and associated budgets.
- Develop, write and manage production and distribution of a wide range of program communications and publications to reach key member company and affiliated audiences including newsletters, blog posts, annual report (state of the campaign), impact reports, collateral materials website content, power point decks, video and webinars.
- Work with internal campaign stakeholders to gather, curate and write content for the P+PB program website.
- Manage external agencies and designers to produce and publish various communications and printed pieces for distribution to P+PB companies and industry.
Company and Industry Events Outreach (20%)
- Manage a Communications Ambassadors Summit/Industry Communicators Event annually in late Spring/early Summer to share best practices and learn from P+PB campaign staff and presenters.
- Collaborating with Sr. Director, Industry Outreach, determine theme, concepts and content for annual State of the Campaign industry update, typically held in July.
- Oversee and manage industry trade show meeting schedule and develop timelines and opportunities for participation and sharing of the consumer campaign messaging.
- Support trade show needs and company visits including power points, giveaways, collateral, sponsorships and logistics and event management as needed.
CAPs Program Management (30%)
- Oversee the CAPs (Communications Ambassadors) program in coordination with the marketing communications coordinator –increasing engagement of member companies in the campaign, increasing visibility among all levels within member companies including leadership, sales & marketing and mill employees.
- Develop and promote amplifications and extensions of the consumer campaign within member companies and the industry.
- Manage distribution and return of annual licensing agreement customizing as needed to protect the campaign trademarks.
- Oversee the update and distribution of weekly emails highlighting campaign efforts and amplification opportunities and a printable TV schedule highlighting the channels, networks, timing, etc. for use internally so employees can view the commercials working with the Marketing Coordinator.
- Develop turnkey employee targeted promotional campaigns to engage companies at all levels in the campaign.
- Develop periodic campaign themed promotional materials for CAPs, populate and manage CAPs Toolkit as needed with uploads and management (removal, additions, etc.) year-round.
- Develop and deliver informational webinars, highlighting internal communication campaigns, HLUF updates, seasonal initiatives, etc.
- Track and analyze program engagement and outreach results to drive participating in the campaign.
- Onboard new Communications Ambassadors.
- Develop a process for onboarding new companies in coordination with Finance.
- A bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations or strategic communications
- 5 -7 years of experience in marketing communications or association/membership communications or internal communications for a large company.
- Outstanding customer service orientation skills
- Works well in a fast-paced, team environment
- Excellent writing skills / portfolio of writing samples writing for email marketing, newsletter articles, website and social media
- Project management experience and the ability to handle multiple communications projects simultaneously
- Experience with DAMs (digital asset management systems), email platforms (Mailchimp) and backend tracking platforms, printers, database/list management
- Experience working with and managing external vendors
- Experience making presentations and webinars to small groups or using platforms like Zoom
- Experience with email newsletter software like Mail Chimp, database management programs, and analytics platforms
- Working knowledge of social media and the value of social networking
