Job Description:
Public Relations (PR) Coordinator supports the PR team in its mission to be the voice of the banking industry. This position will support the PR team with communicating ABA positions and messaging to the media, bankers, state associations and internal staff.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide strong customer service to the PR team; duties include facilitating phone correspondence between the media and appropriate member of the PR team. Support special requests from reporters, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
• Proofread and distribute press releases and other communications materials for error-free and on-time distribution including Web posting. Monitor ABA’s online Press Room ensuring information is up to date and relevant to site visitors.
• Produce monthly PR reports for executive staff. Work with the design team to produce an annual infographic summarizing the department’s engagement with media, bankers and state associations for broader member distribution. Create reports detailing media coverage of specific issues as needed.
• Contribute writing for items that may include press releases, reports, memos, and other projects. Provide PR assistance for ABA Foundation programs and other areas as assigned.
• Coordinate department’s use of Cision media relations software. Responsibilities include troubleshooting technical issues and lead coordination with vendor, create regular activity reports, ensure media lists are up to date and other tasks assigned as necessary.
• Compile and distribute news clips.
• Assist in developing the agenda and help facilitate bi-weekly conference calls with state association communicators.
• Assist with the coordination and tracking of PR department’s budget.
• Oversee special projects including but not limited to, press conference preparation/logistics; conference media registration/logistics; research; graphs and charts; reporter receptions; Quote of the Month; Quote of the Year Party.
• Provide overall administrative support to PR staff as needed.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Policy, Public Relations or related field preferred or commensurate experience.
• Experience and knowledge of AP style.
• 0 to 2 years’ professional or internship working in a Communications or Public Relations; trade association experience, Agency, Capitol Hill or Banking experience preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, database management, and HTML preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communications and customer service skills.
• Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and work well with others.
• Familiarity with Cision or other media databases/news retrieval services preferred.
• Experience in event planning and logistics.
• Working style that showcases a sense of urgency.
