Purpose of Position
To provide ongoing research and analytical support to (1) AdvaMed’s Payment & Health Care Delivery Policy Department across medical technology coverage and payment issues addressed by the department, and (2) to the Head of Research in the management of research projects undertaken by all AdvaMed’s departments.
Essential Duties of Position
Provides a broad range of research and analytical assistance to the Head of the Payment & Health Care Delivery Policy and Head of Research, including:
Responsibility for organizing and managing AdvaMed’s research portfolio that addresses and advances AdvaMed’s strategic priorities
Planning, prioritizing, and implementing a portfolio of specific projects and research ideas to advance AdvaMed strategic priorities, including formulating specific research methodologies for individual projects
Conducting internal qualitative and quantitative data analysis to inform AdvaMed’s advocacy work on behalf of member companies
Analyzing the accuracy of and critically reviewing deliverables from research contractors to ensure accuracy and policy relevance.
Managing and supervising the day-to-day operation of research contractors and consultants including implementing an on-going system to monitor and evaluate hours and work completed, working closely with research contractors, AdvaMed’s accounting and legal staff, and Department staff
Managing subject area policy work within the Payment & Health Care Delivery Policy department, including convening working group calls, advising member companies of critical payment policy issues, and initiating the development of written drafts of studies, papers, research proposals, materials for presentations and webinars.
Interacting effectively with AdvaMed members and department and other AdvaMed staff on complex health policy questions within tight timeframes and to provide timely information in a summary format for payment department staff and members
Interacting with government agencies, private sector associations, and other organizations about AdvaMed positions on policy issues and explaining the rationale behind those positions
Presenting analysis and research to AdvaMed staff and members
Drafting and editing summaries, member alerts, presentations, diagrams, and spreadsheets for AdvaMed member workgroups, members, and other audiences
Managing the Payment Department’s website content by developing new content and updating and revising previously submitted material
Maintaining and updating research databases and notifying AdvaMed staff of pertinent research and other information relevant to the priorities of the department
Managing payment databases of official communication and correspondence with member companies regarding internal and external research reports
Performing related administrative duties for department as needed
Hybrid Work Policy: Teleworker: Minimum 1 day onsite per week
Travel: Up to 5%
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of health policy issues and trends, including the medical device and diagnostics industry
Knowledge of public policy development, including regulatory and legislative processes
Ability to understand and synthesize complex information for general audiences
Ability to actively listen, process, and interact productively with colleagues, members, and others
Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues, members, and other industry personnel, including subject matter experts, government affairs staff, and research consultants
Ability to obtain data and answers creatively and resourcefully to research questions
Ability to organize and prioritize workload with flexibility and adapt to constantly changing priorities
Ability to engage in high-level analytical thinking
Advanced proficiency in the use of relevant Microsoft Office Suite software, file conversion, and research/statistical databases
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
