The Director of Membership Development & Engagement will play a key role in achieving the strategic initiatives outlined below (see “About MedChi”) by leading a division of dedicated individuals focused on membership recruitment, event planning, marketing and communications, business development, database management, and dues billing and processing. This position reports to the Chief of Staff.
The ideal candidate will be extroverted, energetic, comfortable with public speaking, and enthusiastic about engaging with large groups of people. Knowledge of health policy is strongly preferred, and experience in association management is a plus, but a candidate who can demonstrate an aptitude for learning will be considered.
This is a hybrid role that will require a combination of time spent in the office (Baltimore and/or Annapolis), attending events around the state of Maryland, and working remotely.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the Director of Membership Development & Engagement include, but are not limited to:
Supervise approximately 8 staff, to include MedChi’s event planning, communications, and business development staff
Strategically coalesce the efforts of MedChi’s divisions into a comprehensive, well-branded, and effective message for outreach to various stakeholders
Develop and implement membership recruitment and retainment programs based on relational sales, data analytics, marketing expertise, and an ability to clearly define and demonstrate MedChi’s value premise
Oversee the efficient and accurate deployment of MedChi’s annual dues billing and prospect mailing processes
Manage MedChi’s membership database with the support of 1-2 staff
Manage the selection and deployment of a new association management software system
Collaborate with county medical societies on regional-focused membership development initiatives
Attend events, sometimes in the evening and on weekends, as a representative of MedChi
Work closely with physician members, field phone calls from the public, and serve as a resource to other MedChi staff members
Support MedChi’s Membership Committee by planning virtual meetings, taking minutes, and managing projects developed by the committee

Supervisory experience
Experience with association management or customer relationship software
Strong organizational skills
